          Editor-in-Chief

          Jennifer Newman

I’m a married urban mom with two busy boys. On the weekends, I can be found navigating Chicago’s streets in my 2013 Subaru Outback while shuttling my kids to their activities. As a certified car-seat technician, I install child-safety seats into test cars for Cars.com’s Car Seat Checks. When I’m not working with car seats, I spend my weekdays writing and editing stories for Cars.com.

          First car: Ford Escort hatchback

          Joe Wiesenfelder

          Executive Editor

          Joe Wiesenfelder

After six years in the magazine business, I made the jump to Web publishing in 1995 to apply my experience with photography, video and the written word. I joined the Cars.com launch team in 1997 and, well, time flies.

I'd say my emphasis is cutting through marketing claims and technobabble to determine what really matters to car buyers. Nothing tees me off more than supposed improvements that degrade the driving experience. I'm the harshest critic of transmission performance that you're ever likely to meet, and I remain baffled by the SUV craze, but I judge all vehicles on their own merit. If I have a shortcoming, it's a blindness to the image aspect of vehicles. SUVs and sports cars don't make you cool, and minivans don't make you lame. Many people, and the entire state of California, clearly disagree.

First car: My first car was a 1971 Oldsmobile Delta 88 whose 455-cubic-inch engine awoke the car nut in me — and made me a big-block snob for eternity. I survived more than 10 years owning a '79 Fiat Spider I bought from Tom ("Click") Magliozzi from NPR's "Car Talk," which I recently replaced with the "tuna boat," a 1984 Mercedes 300D turbo-diesel. I keep a 2002 Mazda Miata SE as a reliable backup.

          Joe Bruzek

I’m in the thick of vehicle testing for Cars.com, helping create content from a constant stream of automaker-provided and Cars.com-purchased test cars. One of my favorite tests are multicar comparisons where we take an entire vehicle segment such as midsize sedans or compact SUVs and find the best of the class over a week of testing. As a judge, it’s one of the most telling evaluations of where a car lies in a segment. Outside of work, I tinker with a 1998 Pontiac Trans Am, follow motorsports and try to attend many races or car shows through the summer months.

First car: 1990 Chevrolet Caprice, an ex-police car. It had straight pipes, a flipped air intake lid and sounded a lot faster than it was.

          Jen Burklow

Born in Chicago, I've lived in the north and west suburbs for most of my life. I worked for 20 years at the Chicago Sun-Times in a variety of editing positions before leaving to freelance and spend more time with my four smart and talented daughters/stepdaughters. During my time as a freelancer I served as the assistant editor for the Sun-Times' ToDrive section. That combined with being raised by a car-crazy father made joining Cars.com a perfect fit. With four kids and several dogs to haul around, vans have been my family's preferred mode of transportation for decades and may continue to be; we now have seven grandkids and counting. We are still driving our second GMC Safari as well as a 2014 Kia Sportage. Free time finds me playing/training/walking/hiking with our dogs, biking/boating/fishing with family and reading whenever I can.

          Matt Schmitz

Born and raised in the St. Louis suburbs and educated at the University of Missouri-Columbia, I've paid my dues as both a Chicagoan and journalist over the past decade and a half. I now use my experience and expertise to help car shoppers make informed choices. My automotive interests gravitate toward full-size luxury sedans and muscle cars, though I would only own a hybrid. You'll find me geeking out on Spielbergs and Kubricks, spinning Elvis and Prince, quoting Dickens and Durden, counting carbs and braking for shawarma. My other car is the Chicago Transit Authority.

          Aaron Bragman

          Detroit Bureau Chief

          Aaron Bragman

I joined the Cars.com editorial team in 2012 after a seven-year stint as an auto-industry analyst covering everything from new models to corporate strategy to sales trends. I've got more than 20 years in the auto industry, having worked in sales at Bosch Braking Systems and as a production buyer for Nissan as well. Now, I'm the Detroit bureau chief for Cars.com and a contributor to PickupTrucks.com. Personally, I'm a huge car guy, always have been. I grew up mostly in the Detroit area and come from an automotive family. The industry is in my blood, and my passion for it runs deep. I'm in Ann Arbor, Mich., and I bleed maize and blue.

First car: An almost-new 1991 Ford Escort GT. It was bright red, had a five-speed stick, sunroof and rear seats that folded down to provide enough room to carry everything I owned off to college.

          Jennifer Geiger

I'm a Chicago "lifer" and admitted word nerd who studied English at DePaul University and started my editorial career at Consumer Guide Automotive. I joined Cars.com in 2011 and write for the News section. I'm also a reviewer, car-seat technician and mom of three. I wear a lot of hats, many of them while driving a minivan.

First car: I learned to drive on a 1995 Ford Contour and helped my then-boyfriend, now-husband buy a 1999 Saturn SL2 in 2002.

          Mike Hanley

I've been at Cars.com since 2002 and am one of the people responsible for editing the car information that appears in the site's Research section. I also write car reviews. I'm a father of three boys, so I understand and appreciate the practicality of a modern minivan, but I also like cars that deliver a rewarding driving experience that puts a smile on your face.

Born in New York, raised in the Carolinas and professionally refined in Chicago, I’m fortunate to unite a lifelong enthusiasm for all things automotive with a degree in print journalism and mass communications. I spent my formative years absorbing a wide range of motoring publications and TV, but my work experience led me in a different direction with editorial dues paid at smaller business-to-business outlets and a notable global e-commerce startup. Only at Cars.com have the twain finally met.

Senior Editor, Consumer Affairs & Vehicle Evaluations

          Kelsey Mays

I’ve been part of Cars.com’s editorial team since 2006, but I’m a Midwest transplant. I grew up in Seattle and attended Pepperdine University near Los Angeles, where I developed an automotive section for the school’s weekly newspaper and worked briefly at Edmunds.com. At Cars.com I investigate and cover wide-ranging issues across the auto industry. I also review cars, both on camera and in (virtual) print, and serve on the North American Car and Truck of the Year jury. I’m a big consumer advocate, especially when it comes to safety, quality and value. And, traffic be damned, I still love a good stick-shift sedan.

Outside of work, my wife and I enjoy cooking, bike rides, piano and pro football. Well, I probably enjoy the football a little more than she does.

I handle the scheduling and logistics for the cars we review here in Chicago and in our multivehicle Challenges. I joined Cars.com in 2013, providing technical support for consumers buying and selling cars, and I’ve carried that consumers-first attitude to my work on the editorial team.
