        SPRING 2020
        Adoption Day Updates
        Scout
Just wanted to let you know that Scout is adjusting so well. He still loves the mouse toys. As you can see, he never puts it down. His favorite place to be is snuggled in momma or sisters lap with his mouse. He is just the sweetest!

People For Pets looks forward to many more rescues in 2020.

People For Pets is a non-profit organization devoted to finding loving homes for abandoned pets by dedicated volunteers who put in an average of 1500 hours of service per month. We have an agreement with the City of Spencer, Iowa, to find homes for all stray cats and dogs not claimed within three business days. Before this agreement was made, these loving pets were put to sleep!

People For Pets helps pets find loving homes and people find loving pets. We also promote spaying and neutering to help control the pet population. All dogs/cats are spayed/neutered prior to adoption unless they are too young or have not yet been scheduled for the procedure.

People For Pets requires that any animal that is not yet spayed or neutered at the time of adoption, must be spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption. If the pet is too young at this date, then the pet must be spayed or neutered by or before its 6 month birthday.

        Adoption Process

If you are interested in adopting a cat or dog please see our Adoption Procedures page for detailed information.

People For Pets does charge an adoption fee for all animals. The fees help cover the cost of vaccinations, worming, veterinary care, spaying/neutering, food, cleaning supplies, and much more. All animals are vet checked, vaccinated and wormed prior to adoption. Cats are Felv/FIV tested.

        Adoption Fees - Cats $45-$125 / Dogs $150-$350

DonationsHave you considered a donation to People For Pets?

Donations will be used toward the following: Vet bills; building maintenance; event preparations; monthly overhead expenses including but not limited to laundry soap, bleach, paper towels, mop heads and handles, garbage sacks and everything in between.

        Lost Spencer Animals

If the Spencer Police Department picks up your cat or dog it is taken to Animal Medical Center, which serves as the impound. The pet stays in impound for three days waiting for you to pick it up. If the three days are reached without you claiming your pet, it is sent to People For Pets to be put up for adoption.

Many of these pets are still waiting at People for Pets. If you have lost your pet check our website to see if we have your pet. If not you may contact the following:
